This Internet censorship bill is still seriously standing a very strong chance of passing. Websites like Youtube, Google and TUMBLR could not exist under censorship. Makes sure you take a couple seconds to sign your name and don’t forget to call in on Tuesday.

If you guys are wondering how could something so obviously bad for everyone could be passed through both the Congress and Senate at all, it’s because of Hollywood. The entertainment industry including the music and movie businesses are lobbying for this bill to pass in what they hope will protect their copyrights and stop pirating. Obviously, Hollywood has a lot of money and as a result a large influence over politicians.
The only problem is that in hopes of protecting their music and movies, they are willing to practically destroy the Internet as we know it. We will never have the freedom to upload or post anything we want anymore. Even simply uploading a cover song onto Youtube or having the song play in the background of some video blog will get you sued and the hosting website (Youtube) shut down.
This restriction will also mean that new websites and startups are less likely to succeed. They could be completely honestly be unaware that something they do violates a copyright, and they will be sued and taken down.
And as much as I would love to see music and movies succeed in protecting their work (being an artist/designer myself), we have to admit that the technology industry creates more jobs, generates more money, and overall is of more positive relevance to the majority of society.
